Independence Day Celebrations 2013

The Independence Day 2013 was celebrated by the Greater Kailash-2 Welfare Association with zeal and zest at M-Block Park, GK-2, New Delhi.

There was a huge participation by the residents of all age groups. The excitement of this day could be seen in the huge turn-out of about 250 children and many adults at about 6:00am at the M-Block Market for the mini-marathon.
A little later in the day, at about 9:00am the residents gathered again in large numbers at the M-Block Park for the flag hoisting and cultural programs. The children and adults were well enjoying the flying of tri coloured kites filling the skies with colours of our national flag.

The program began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Chief Guest Prof. Vijay Kr. Malhotra, MLA. He was accompanied by the Guest of Honour Smt. Sunita Gulliya, Councillor, Special Guests Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Sh. Rakesh Gulliya. The entire GK-2 seemed to have come to a stand-still as a mark of respect to our National Anthem and our National Flag.

Sh. Ashok Bagga, President of the GK2 Welfare Association then addressed the residents and informed them of the achievements of GK-2WA which was appreciated and applauded by all. The stage was then set open for the cultural programs.

The highlights of the program were songs and dance by young children, fancy dress competition by kids who portrayed themselves as various patriotic personalities and last but not the least this program witnessed for the first time, a group patriotic song by the Executive Committee Members of the GK2WA. On this occasion, the GK2WA honoured the residents of 80 plus age with a memento and shawl. The program was followed by light refreshments.

The Independence Day Program ended as a grand success, the credit of which goes to the hardworking and dedicated team of the GK2WA Executive Committee Members who spent considerable time and effort in organising the program without whom, such a wonderful program could not have been possible.

The begining of the Encroachment Removal Drive - 1.9.2013

The Greater Kailash-2 Welfare Association initiated an encroachment removal drive 1.9.2013. The members of the association initiated a protest march from the M-Block market at about 9:00am today. The hawkers who were illegally occupying the footpaths, removed their encroachments on seeing the association march in peaceful protest. Soon many residents joined in the march.

The menace of illegal encroachment has been troubling the residents since long. The residents which includes elders, children and people of all age groups were compelled to walk on the main road despite heavy traffic as the footpaths were illegally encroached upon. This not only endangered the lives of the pedestrians, but also created a traffic snarl in the area.

Though, on seeing the march, the encroachers had removed themselves from the area, but this did not deter them to return back a few hours after the march was
over. The association has already taken up the matter with the local police who have ensured that they shall not let the encroachment continue.

The Association has done its part and now it is up to the Residents of GK2 to come forward to support in this ongoing drive for cleanliness and environment friendly ambiance.

New Playground Equipments for Children

The GK2WA has installed seven playground equipments across various parks in Greater Kailash-II. The new playground equipments are thoughtfully chosen keeping in mind the safety and development of children.

Social skills that children develop on the playground become lifelong skill sets that are carried forward into their adulthood. Playgrounds are among the most important environments for children outside the home.

When a child uses a playground, he or she is learning to play independently. Children enjoy spending time with other children. Using a playground helps a child learn to be by himself or herself and have fun without needing others for entertainment. A playground can help a child, who often relies on others for play, to become more independent.

When a child stops relying on someone else to propel him on the swing or play some other toys in the playground, it helps him develop coordination. For some children, verbal coaching does not seem to work. Instead, the child must learn through trial and error. However, once they learn it, they use the coordination to play with these installed equipments, as well as in other areas of their lives.

A child also needs to learn how to balance and how that balance affects her and her body. If the child cannot balance, he or she is likely to fall from the swing. Learning how to balance while going through the back and forth motions is a different sensation than establishing balance when walking or sitting. The more sensations a child is exposed to as he or she grows, the better she will be able to adapt to new situations.

GK2WA cares for the welfare of its residents and their children. We hope that the children who come to these parks would enjoy the new playground equipments.
